vCard or dynamic vCard: what’s the difference?
Badge Studio software now lets you choose between a simple vCard mode and a dynamic vCard mode.
The simple vCard: unique and non-modifiable
The simple vCard cannot be modified once it has been created: all the contact details it contains are permanently linked to the QR code. If you make the slightest change to this information, a new QR code will be generated, rendering the previous vCard obsolete. It therefore needs to be reprinted each time the coordinates are updated.
This vCard can be created and scanned without an internet connection.
Dynamic vCard mode: greater flexibility and customization
Once created, a dynamic vCard can be updated as many times as you like. If you make a change to your information, there’s no need to reprint your business cards: the QR code on the business card won’t change, but the information in the vCard will be updated.
What’s more, thanks to the dynamic vCard mode and its greater storage capacity, you can now include photos in your contact details. When your contact scans your QR code with their smartphone, they’ll find your contact details and photo directly in their contacts.
This QR code requires an internet connection to be created and scanned.
To sum up…
vCard | Dynamic vCard | |
Visual rendering | Denser QR code, slower to decipher with your smartphone | Cleaner QR code, faster to decipher with your smartphone |
Data update | Requires generating a new QR code, and therefore reprinting the business card | Possible: the business card remains the same, but the information to which the QR code leads can change as many times as you like |
Photo | Impossible to include in vCard | Can be integrated into a dynamic vCard: scan the QR code and users will find your photo in their phone |
Internet connection | Not required to create or read the QR code | Required to create or read the QR code |
